Sunday, July 27-Kensington  The Culottas have had much to celebrate in recent months–Cousin Stephanie has been with the East Coast Culottas all summer long fulfilling a internship downtown, Bridget has graduated from high school, and Mary Kate has surpassed her aunts and mother in height!  With such a rare opportunity to have all of the grandkids in one place and at one time, the Culottas decided to throw a party at Margot’s house.  It was a blast!

Pop Pop was in great spirits having been brought to the party by Maureen, one of his favorite nursing aids, who actually spent a weekend with him at his beach house in Delaware last week.  Despite a few spotty showers, the weather was beautiful, and Pop Pop was surrounded by number of old friends who used to run around with his wild kids back in the day.  The Altmeyers, Stavros, and Shawn-Fishers were there to enjoy some pork barbecue and a few libations and good cheer.  Pop Pop hasn’t stopped talking about it.

Pop Pop continues to be a little frustrated with the fact that he cannot walk, but that is the bulk of his discomfort.  Most days he is lucid, if not tired, but his biggest disappointment is the mobility issue.  However, his kids are hoping to fix some of that frustration in the next few weeks.  We’ll have a post devoted to that.

Other exciting news is that Nancy will be in town next week to visit Pop Pop.  Her cards adorn his room from wall to wall, and I know he’s excited to see in person as he’s been talking about it quite a lot.  There will be a post devoted to that as well.

Meantime, you’re probably wondering about this blog.  Why is it here?  What can it accomplish?  Well, I’ve been a proponent of family websites for a while, and in a perfect world where everyone is diligent and tech savvy, everyone could just update this blog with his own information as it arose.  (And you still can.  Just email me for the username and password.  This is, after all,  our family’s blog).

But with all of the grandkids scattering (all but one are in college or have graduated, and of the graduates, all will have their own places come September) and life being the way it is, communication can be hard.  That said, you can bookmark this page for easy access in your website and refer to it whenever you want to see pictures or updates as to how Pop Pop and the rest of the family have been.  This will primarily be a tool to keep the AZ, MI, FL Culottas in the loop as to how Pop Pop is doing on a regular basis–the personal accounts vs. “the official story” and pictures to supliment  your imaginations.

Of course it is my hope that this this will also become a place where we can share information about our own lives too.   Not every piece of information needs an urgent email attached to it.  You can get your family news when it’s convenient for you, the way you read a newspaper; and like an online paper, you can leave your comments right here on the page.   So check the site when you can, update when you want, and enjoy seeing our family prosper–virutually and literally.
